TAG Talk Number 6 A Cotswolds Farmhouse Project

For the past twelve years TAG member Simon Hurst has been working for one client altering and extending a Cotswolds farmhouse complex: adding a substantial new wing to replace a 1970’s one; converting the barns; and adding a cunningly disguised indoor swimming pool. Further phases have included a staff accommodation range; dining room extension; cart-shed; and an ill-fated summerhouse. The story follows the evolution over a decade and how the client’s needs changed and how the architecture adapted to suit.

Exceptional lengths were made to make the new buildings blend in with the historic parts to create what aspires to appear as something organic that might have evolved over two centuries. This leads to some interesting discussions about authenticity, and tradition and should spark some interesting questions and comment after Simon’s presentation.
