Classical and Traditional Architect and Urban Designer
ABOUT
Robert Adam has been a major figure in the British and international practice of classical and traditional architecture for 40 years. He pioneered contextual urban design and his work on objective coding is now promoted by the government. He continues to work internationally on new houses, commercial buildings and urban design.
He has won the prestigious international Driehaus Prize (2017) and the American Arthur Ross Award (2015), as well as numerous British Awards, including the Traditional Architecture Group Lifetime Achievement Award (2022). He has written the seminal textbook, Classical Architecture: a complete handbook, (1990) as well as major theoretical works, The Globalisation of Modern Architecture (2013) and Time for Architecture (2020). He teaches internationally, is professor of urban design at the University of Strathclyde, and has set up courses in classical architecture at the University of Oxford. He was awarded a PhD for published work at Oxford Brookes University in 2022.
