In anticipation of our forthcoming Open Table Discussion focused on Traditional Architecture and Urban Design Summer Schools across Europe, TAG is pleased to announce the availability of two courses centred on classical architecture, taught by the esteemed Robert Adam, to be conducted at the University of Oxford:
Classical Architecture in Oxford - Design Principles Behind the Facades
Full time residential course 6 – 13 July 2024
This course is part of the Oxford University Summer School for Adults (OUSSA) programme.
An in-depth examination of how Oxford’s buildings chart the changes in classical architecture over the centuries, the principles of their composition and the symbolism that lies behind them.
Visits to Oxford’s classical buildings, from the 17th to the 21st century, with different expert lectures on the principles of their design and composition as well as the ideas and symbols behind them, will allow students to understand how classical architecture has evolved and explore their own analysis and ideas on design and composition.

Classical Architecture: A Design Workshop
2 hours classes for 10 weeks starting on 22 Apr 2024, every Monday from 14:00 to 16:00.
Students will be taken through the history and variety of classical architecture through the ages and learn to draw some of the key assemblies of columns and beams that provide the framework to all classical design, well-known practitioners will explain how they have used these to create their own designs. Students will have a chance to try their hand under expert supervision and take away their own designs.
