St Paul's Cathedral Tour
On the 9th of April, TAG had a private tour around Saint Paul’s Cathedral. We were privileged to have Oliver Caroe, the Surveyor of the Fabric, join us for the tour.
After a brief visit to the crypt, taking in Wren’s tomb amongst others, we went up to the triforium from which we saw the mathematical staircase, the library and the Great Model. The library was undergoing restoration and so it had been emptied of its books and furniture. In some respects this made it more interesting as only the architecture remained on view.
For most people the highlight of the day was seeing Wren’s vast model of an early design for the cathedral. It is a truly stunning object and a work of architecture in its own right. It must be one of the greatest architectural models in the world.
Following the tour many of the group attended choral evensong and then on to the Black Friar pub for a well earned pint.
